46th Plenary Meeting: Innovation – Progress, Potential and Limitations

Emperors Palace, Convention Centre, 64 Jones Road, Kempton Park, Johannesburg (next to OR Tambo International Airport) 08:30 for 09:15-16:00 The NSTF has often had discussions on innovation over the years, because it goes with the territory of science, engineering and technology. Science being an endless chain of new discoveries, and technology usually interpreted as being technological innovation – which is the case in our national Science and Technology policy documents. Innovation in engineering means new methodologies, materials, and insights that lead to designing and building systems that are different from any that were created before. However, the concept of ‘’innovation” does not belong to science, engineering or technology only. The most common use of the word innovation, seems to occur in the business context, where it could to be seen as the supreme virtue, as the aspect that gives a business the competitive edge. The closest Gautrain station to Emperors Palace is Rhodesfield station. From there you can catch the Gautrain bus that takes you right onto the Emperors Palace premises.
