Tell us a bit about your school.

I attended Alexander Road High School in Port Elizabeth. It is a school located in an urban area with over 1000 students. The school prides itself on providing a balanced schooling environment in academics, cultural and academic aspects.

When/how did you realise you enjoyed science and mathematics more than your other school subjects?

I have always found that I was more inclined towards science and mathematics; even when I was a young child I would mix anything I found in my mother’s kitchen in the hopes that a reaction would occur.

What inspires you?

I guess I’d have to say my inspiration is my desire to always improve myself.

What advice do you have for matriculants who have to apply for places at higher education institutions?

Never just apply to one institution and don’t feel defeated if you do not get accepted into your first choice. There are other options.

Why did you choose the course you are studying now?

After hearing all the details about chemical engineering I felt that this would be the right choice for me as I felt it fit my personality.

Where do you see yourself five years from now, in terms of your studies/career?

Hopefully I will have my engineering degree and be working for Sasol.

Anything else you would like to share that would be helpful to learners in Grades 11 and 12?

Study hard and never give up. Setbacks only exist to make way for success.
