Athenkosi Khonzani envisions himself successfully completing his PhD in electrical and computer engineering and embarking on an entrepreneurial journey by establishing his own tech company.
I am an ordinary Khayelitsha resident with extraordinary dreams of becoming a hero. However, my aspirations go beyond the realm of fantasy; I envision myself as a beacon of inspiration, empowering children from disadvantaged backgrounds like mine. My purpose is to serve as a symbol of hope, reminding others that the impossible can be achieved.
I am deeply passionate about electrical and computer engineering, as it resonates with the core of my being. From a young age, my imagination was captivated by the idea of becoming an inventor. As I matured, my fascination grew to encompass programming, robotics, and all the intricacies of this field. Choosing electrical and computer engineering was a natural decision that perfectly aligned with my interests and ambitions. Even now, as I immerse myself in my studies, I am confident that I made the right choice.
In the upcoming decade, I envision myself successfully completing my PhD. in electrical and computer engineering. Moreover, I see myself going on an entrepreneurial journey, having established my very own tech company. With a goal of enhancing South Africa’s (SA) technology and preparing the nation for the transformative impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). By driving innovation and promoting technological advancements, I am determined to improve the standard of SA, enabling it to compete effectively with other countries out there.
I enjoy both subjects because they continually stimulate and challenge my mind. These areas serve as the foundational blueprint that shape and define our world. From their seemingly simple principles, limitless ideas and possibilities can come about. Engaging with mathematics and science not only expands my knowledge, but also hones my problem-solving skills. They constantly present me with intellectual challenges, driving me to strive for improvement and ensuring that I never grow bored.
Situated in Khayelitsha, my school, the Centre of Science and Technology (COSAT), serves as a remarkable institution for learning. It represents an environment that improves healthy competition and emphasises the pursuit of academic excellence. I credit many of my achievements to the exceptional teachers who have played an important role in my journey. Their dedication and unparalleled passion for their subjects have been a constant source of motivation. I am grateful for the impact COSAT has had in my life.
The challenges individuals face in excelling in mathematics and science can be attributed to various factors. Firstly, the abstract nature of these subjects requires a level of imaginative thinking to truly grasp their concepts. Lack of sufficient resources and effective teaching methods can limit the development of a deep understanding and appreciation for these subjects.
Additionally, the psychological aspect also plays a significant role. Mathematics and science are often perceived as difficult to comprehend, with a high failure rate. This perception can easily demotivate individuals, leading to a lack of confidence and engagement when studying these subjects.
In mathematics and science, hard work is the main reason for success. While some are talented, it is the dedication and perseverance that truly propel individuals forward.
In mathematics and science, there are no shortcuts to excellence. Hard work, when combined with a passion for learning, will enable you to unlock your full potential and achieve remarkable accomplishments. So, embrace the journey, stay dedicated, and witness the transformative power of your own efforts in these subjects.
Grade 11 and 12 are crucial stages in your educational journey, as they lay the foundation for your future. The effort you invest during this time can significantly impact the path you choose to pursue. Remember, your journey doesn’t end with Grade 12, but the choices you make during this crucial period can shape the trajectory of your life.
So, work diligently, but also dare to chase your dreams. With perseverance, focus, and believing in yourself, you can create the way for a fulfilling and successful future.
When selecting your university course, it is important to choose a field of study that truly ignites your passion. While the journey may present challenges and demand hard work, your genuine enthusiasm for the subject will provide the fuel to persevere.
By pursuing a course you love, you will find yourself naturally motivated to push through obstacles and overcome difficulties. Your curiosity and dedication will drive you to explore the subject matter in greater depth, ensuring a more fulfilling and rewarding learning experience.
Additionally, choosing a course you love increases the likelihood of finding joy and satisfaction in your future career. You will be more likely to engage in continuous learning, professional growth, and innovation within your chosen field.
For me an achiever is defined by their unwavering determination and resilience. They refuse to give up and persevere through challenges. They fearlessly push themselves to their limits, breaking down barriers and continuously striving to become the best versions of themselves.
Never set limitations on your mind, for its potential is boundless. The world is your oyster, embrace curiosity, nurture creativity, and let your imagination run free, as you unlock the vast potential within you.
I would choose Steve Biko and I would ask one question: What made you decide to partake in educating black people to freeing their minds and let them know that they are as much capable as everyone else?
